The brainstem evoked response audiometry (BERA) test is an evaluation test. It is recommended for testing the hearing threshold and diagnosing retrocochlear lesions.

The BERA test takes about an hour to an hour and a half. However, the entire appointment might take about two hours.

The BERA test is performed to examine the brain’s response to sound stimulus and also check the auditory function.

Both BERA and EEG measure the electrical waves in the brain. However, the waves formed in the BERA test are highly time-specific.

The BERA test is done by using a click sound to which an individual’s average hearing threshold frequencies are evaluated.
