Hi Ear pain can be due to hard impacted wax or due to an ear infection. That can be confirmed by examination of ears by Ent specialist. Cannot prescribe medication without confirming the findings. Ask him not to use ear buds to clean ears. If he goes for swimming in sea he better use ear buds as there are chances of getting ear fungal infections. He can take paracetamol for pain. Ask him to keep ears dry
