Uncertain Shedding After Stopping Oral

2025-07-12 12:13:25
I've been on oral finasteride for 3 months, along with topical minoxidil combined with finasteride. Recently, I stopped the oral finasteride and am continuing only with the topical. Now, I'm noticing healthy hair falling out, including some of the newer growth. I'm unsure if this is just another shedding phase or if I'm starting to lose hair again.

Your increased hair fall is likely due to stopping finasteride. Finasteride works by reducing DHT, which causes hair thinning in AGA. When stopped, DHT levels rise again, leading to shedding. This is reversible you can consider restarting it after medical advice. Continue minoxidil, and expect visible results in 3–6 months.

Finasteride stoppage could resume hormonal hair loss. But there are certain other therapies that you can have to prevent the side effects of finasteride while maintaining hair growth. Need proper history and evaluation for that.
