TVS ultrasound in 32 weeks pregnancy

Currently 31 weeks pregnant and doc told baby position is dropped a bit but still not dropped till pelvic bone. Doctor asked to come in 32 weeks to check the cervix length and baby position. She said she will perform internal ultrasound. Is it safe to undergo TVS at this stage? Can cervical length and fetal weight can be checked by normal ultrasound?
