GDM IN 31 WEEKS
Hi I am 31 weeks pregnant and underwent a 3 hr gtt test, the fasting level is 77, 1 hr is 230 and 2 hr is 138. I am on glycomet 500 sr twice a day and my daily monitoring of sugar is below 90 for fasting and 140 for 1 hr after food. Kindly advise, is insulin required since 1 hr reading is more.

GTT is a screening test. Further management is as per daily blood sugar records. These seem to be maintained targets as per current medication. However continue to monitor fasting and 1 hr post meal values as with advancing pregnancy, an increase in dose maybe required
Next Steps
Continue monitoring
Health Tips
Healthy diet and lifestyle Regular walks after meals

Once you know that you are diabetic and you are taking medicine do do not need this test!! You do not require insulin You need to follow a diabetic diet and monitor your sugar with the current medication keeping fasting sugars less than 100 and post lunch two hours less than 140

No. It is not required. However you should also get an HbA1C test done and consult your Gynaecologist.

You need to increase the metformin dose and it's better to consider insuline if not controlled with it

Usually 2 step test is adequate. Hence your fasting is normal and even 2 hour is within range. Just continue oral treatment for now as you may have just started it.

Hi! For now, your sugar values are within expected range. Continue Glycomet and continue monitoring your blood sugar values. As the pregnancy continues the blood sugar values might raise. At present with these values Glycomet is enough, insulin is not needed.
