Tonsil on both sides of Throat
Hi Doctor,
I have been suffering from Tonsils since childhood, and once in every two years and specially during winter season I get this Tonsils severely..
Now I had this tonsil on right side of Throat along with high fever, body pain, and chilling since 3 days..
I consulted local doctor here and he advised to take
Zefu 500 and Zerodol P morning and night, i have anyhow took for 2 days plus today morning too which totals 5 doses, but my throat pain is still there without any improvement and I got the tonsils on my left side of throat too now and difficult in swallowing water saliva and any food and pain in severe, and the tonsils are red inside on both.
Fever temperature is normal now, body is little, I have headache and severe Tonsils pain.
Should I change the medicine? Or treatment, please suggest.

A course of Oral antibiotics for 5 days along with betadine gargle and pain killers will help.
If fever persists , check CBC,CRP,ESR level..
If increased IV treatment will be beneficial.
Recurrent throat pain which requires antibiotics more than 5 times a year then plan for surgery in a disease free period.

Next Steps
1. Continue TAB ZEFU 500 for 3 days
2. add TAB metronidazole 400mg p/o three times in a day after meal for 3 days
3. CAP RABLET D 1CAP P/o empty stomach twice in a day for 3 days
4. replace TAB ZERODOL P with TAB ZERODOL SP ITAB P/O twice in a day for 3 days after meal
5. WARM BETADINE GARGLE 3 TO 4 TIMES IN A DAY
6. SYP SUCRAL O 2tsf p/o twice in a day (20 min before meal) if you face pain while swallowing
Health Tips
1. Take tummy full diet
2. once you felt symptomatically relief go to ENT specialist for surgical resection of tonsils

Ideally tonsils regress automatically in childhood. But if they are still persistent in adult age and are causing symptoms, better to get them operated and removed. They have no role in immunity in adults. But only act as a site for infection.
