Thrombocytopenia problem

2021-05-24 14:55:22
My father's health was totally fine until he came to know that his platelets have been dropped to 50,000...He feels tiredness after little work. Since 4 months he took all the medications famous for increasing platelets containing papaya extracts etc. But after taking all such medications and diet. Its still fluctuating around 50-55k. I have two questions? 1.How to treat this problem? 2.Is it safe for him to take covid vaccine ?

Please consult a physician, 4 months is a long time. Papaya extracts may increase counts, but why did his platelets level fall so low in the first place? Does he have knuckle hyperpigmentation? Does he have bleeding from gums Does he have red spotted rash(petechia)? Does he consume alcohol?

50000 platelet count for past 4 months? Stop taking Papaya extracts and go for a Physician consultation to find out actual cause for low platelet count. First evaluate platelet count and then decide about Covid Vaccine after getting physician consultation

Low platelets could be because of many reasons. You need to consult a general physician and get his assessed. Efficacy of Papaya and other extracts are not proved. So they may not help. Your general physician after assessing him should tell you weather to take vaccine or not

You should consult a specialist and it is best to wait for an increase in platelet count before vaccination, unless otherwise suggested by your specialist.
