Teeth Grinding and clenching while awake

My father is 83 years old and a patient of dementia since last 4 years. Last 5 months he has been completely bed ridden with no movement. In the last few weeks he has started grinding and clenching of teeth while he is awake. This mostly starts in the evening. Since he no longer speaks, it is difficult to understand the reason. Also there is visible decay of his front teeth at the root. What could be the possible reason, is it due to pain? And is it possible for the dentist to remove teeth at home if at all required since it is difficult to bring him to the clinic. Kindly advise.

Hello! I certainly understand your concerns May be he is going through some pain, to subside that pain he might be clenching his teeth and grinding to suppress that pain. Pain usually aggravates by evening, so kindly rule out the cause. You can request nearly dental surgeon to Vist, or we have mobile dental clinic available, you can just google it.

Teeth grinding normally has a neurological and psychological etiology.Since he is 83, it's pretty normal to see a certain level of tooth wear and sensitivity. However, without seeing the patient clinically,it's not justified to make a treatment plan, still to answer your question; No, extractions cannot be done at home, especially for a medically compromised patient. Before proceeding for extractions, the dentist normally asks for blood picture and cardiologist opinion (if he is on aspirin).
Next Steps
Visit a local dentist.Explain your problems and chalk out a treatment plan. Since he is bed-ridden,click pictures of the entire oral cavity, individual tooth and take along all of his medical reports for the first visit.

Hi, Clenching of the teeth could be due to the tooth pain or maybe due to gastric reflux. Contact a nearby dental clinic and share your fathers dental history. Request them for a home visit.
