Swelling in right thumb

There is a red swelling in my right thumb just below the nail area. It pains to touch any area around it. I suspect its an insect bite and I'm going to visit a dermatologist today but it would be helpful if someone can have a look and let me know in case its something serious.

Answers (1)

It looks like infection of the nail bed area called paronychia. It may take around 2 weeks to resolve. If needed a small incision to drain the pus may be needed.
