Sugar levels and vaccination - reg.
Sir/Madam,
My mother is a diabetic. Kindly let me know whether both the sugar levels ( Fasting and Post prandial ) should be normal at the time of vaccination.
Should I also do a HbA1C test before going for vaccination.

It is not a prerequisite to test lHbA1C or fasting PP sugars before taking the vaccine. If not done in the last 2-3 months, would recommend getting HbA1C, fasting and pp sugars in the lab to assess for diabetes control and need for medication changes. DM and hypertension increased risk for COVID infection. Therefore it’s recommended that she receive vaccination as soon as possible irrespective of diabetes tests. Normal fasting values are 80-120, and post meal 90-140, goal HbA1C should be around 7 %
