Floaters are shadows caused by tiny specs in the jelly like matter that fills up the eye behind the lens. The shadows are seen as the particles move across the field of vision. During coughing there is a violent shake up and the shadows seem to increase. Dot cataract can increase the number of shadows as there is additional scattering of light. Get a retinal periphery examination done regularly.
