Sore Throat/Common Cold is it Serious?

2018-01-17 00:25:41
I have this painful sore throat with red bumps running down the middle. There are minor bumps on the side of my throat that make it harder to swallow my spit & consume things like lemonade and oranges. In addition to my sore throat my voice is scratchy and I experience post-nasal drip causing a feeling of lack of air until I sip some ice cold water. So far, I believe it is a common cold but instead of my symptoms going away, it seems like it is slightly getting worse e.g. Throat isgets redder.

Hi there. This is Dr SATYA KIRAN,  ENT Surgeon from Hyderabad. Painful sore throat as explained by u point towards a diagnosis of acute tonsillitis. Usually gets aggravated on consuming cold food items. The change of voice might be 'hot potato voice' seen in acute conditions. Post nasal drip is an important feature of sinusitis, but in ur case there might be long standing adenoid infection & hypertrophy along with tonsillitis since childhood.
Next Steps
recommend ENT consultation
Health Tips
avoid cold food items, take steam inhalations, prefer to sleep side lying
