Hi having a close relative suffering from schizophrenia increase the risk of schizophrenia in offsprings. But it is not like hereditary conditions where offsprings definitely get the disorder.

This disorder can be hereditary to say BUT their is a catch.. transmission to offsprings or next generation is NOT like typical hereditary disorders where few of the offsprings get affected or become carriers. So yes genes carry ONLY a risk of this disorder in future generation and NOT the disorder itself like other hereditary disorders! In most cases, environmental factors may play a MAJOR ROLE in causing this disease THAN just genetics. Happy and non stressful life and better ability to handle stress may keep one away from this disorder even if it is present in family. So in one line, if I have to tell your answer, I would again repeat that " Only risk is carried forward and NOT the disorder"
