Usually CKD patients are more prone to lung complications than normal people and most of the times they have pleural effusions and secondary pneumonias. Kindly share the X-ray film of the patient to see if it’s actually pneumonia or if any other issue maybe present.

Consult a pulmonologist for the same at the earliest

The procedure to treat any pneumonia is to give antibiotics specific to the organism causing the infection . However, when there is no access to the specimen / sputum then procedures like bronchoscopy helps to obtain such specimens for microscopy and culture -sensitivity tests . If such a procedure is not possible then empirical broad spectrum antibiotics are given to the patient and the response is gauged by blood tests , serial xrays and clinical response of the patient to the same .

Treatment of pneumonia is mainly antibiotics and oxygen support. Depending on the severity of pneumonia, she would require hospital admission.

A patient with CKD and dialysis and having a pneumonia should be treated according to the severity. Depending upon severity she may need antibiotics in the hospital ward or ICU.
