Depends on the type of anaesthesia. Under general anaesthesia the patient is put in a state of controlled sleep. People generally choose GA for squint surgeries. Under infiltration anaesthesia the control of blinking and eye movements remains with the surgeon. The patient can see but the cornea is covered with a cotton disc most of the time and eye is rotated as per the needs of surgery.
