Propranolol sustained release (SR) tablets should not be split, as doing so can alter the release profile and lead to fluctuations in blood levels. If a lower dose is required, it’s safer to switch to an immediate-release (IR) preparation such as propranolol 10 mg.
If propranolol is being tapered or discontinued after long-term use, it should be done gradually under medical supervision to avoid rebound tachycardia (temporary increase in heart rate). Always consult your prescribing doctor before changing the formulation or dosage.
