Recurring Uti in 4 yr old preschool girl
My daughter has been diagnosed with following bacteria
August start - pneumoniae kasabella-Augmentin for 7 days
August end- E.coli-Nitrofurantoin for 7 days
Septmeber end -E.coli -Amikasin Injection 3 days alongwith ofloaxcin for 7 days.
2 days after ending antibiotics we again got her urine routine done and there are protein traces in Urine, pus cells are 2-4, epithelial cells 1-2.
I am worried as to why is she having repetitive infections and the medicines that she is taking will they impact her kidney?
What should we do to prevent it.
We got her USG done 2 months back and everything was normal.
The colony count in the urine culture report needs to examined. A colony count of more than 100000 CFU/cumm is significant and would warrant treatment. You could probably repeat a urine culture and if positive again, complete a full course of intravenous antibiotics based on the sensitivity pattern of the urine culture report.
Next Steps
In the meantime, ensure proper perineal hygiene. Avoid bathing in bathtub and always clean from front to back after defecation. Ensure good amounts of oral fluids.
Health Tips
Consult your pediatrician for need of a repeat ultrasound/MCU. More than the medication, recurrent urine infections are harmful to the kidneys if untreated.
