Rabies query

2025-03-28 19:18:51
Hello doctors. I have completed a full 5 doses of vaccine in 2023 of anti rabies for a suspected exposure but it turned out to be a false alarm. Then I got two boosters in December 2023 end and January 2024 begining (0,3) then I got another two vaccines intradermally 0 and 3 in November 2024 and then I got another two boosters in February 2025(Intradermally) but 0.1ml was given on single site instead of two sites (on day 0, 0.1ml on one site and on day 3  0.1ml on the other side as they said since I had previous boosters recently therefore this would be enough) now after taking these two boosters I got scratched a little deeply a  day or two after taking this booster by my pet 7 month old kitten who passed away due to an unspecified ailment and was not vaccinated. What should I do? Just to be safe I took another two boosters 16 days after. Was the boosters unnecessary?

Hello,  Thank you for sharing your detailed vaccination history. Based on your account, you have received multiple doses of the rabies vaccine, including boosters, which likely provide you with substantial immunity. However, the scratch from your unvaccinated kitten—especially since it passed away shortly after—warrants careful evaluation.  Here’s what you need to know:  1. **Rabies Risk Assessment**: The kitten’s unvaccinated status and unspecified cause of death raise concerns, as rabies cannot be ruled out without laboratory testing.  2. **Vaccine Protocol**: Your recent boosters (February 2025) and additional doses 16 days later may have been unnecessary, but they do not harm you. The intradermal dosing (0.1 mL) you described is atypical but may still confer protection given your robust vaccination history.  3. **Next Steps**: To ensure absolute safety, I strongly recommend:     - Confirming the kitten’s cause of death (if possible).     - A thorough clinical assessment to evaluate the scratch and your immune status.  **Consultation Advice**: Rabies is fatal once symptoms appear, so proactive measures are critical. Please schedule a consultation with me for personalized guidance. You can reach me on WhatsApp at **Eight Zero Zero Nine Eight Two One Three Three Two** for further discussion.
