5â6 pus cells in stool with mucus and flatulence indicates mild intestinal inflammation or gut dysbiosis. Your doctor's prescription of Rifaximin (Rifastop) 200mg TDS is appropriate â it's a gut-specific antibiotic that acts locally to reduce bacterial overgrowth and is well suited for your presentation. Complete the full course as prescribed. For home support during treatment: temporarily reduce high-gas foods (chickpeas, soyabean, raw peanuts) as these ferment heavily in the gut and worsen flatulence and mucus. After completing Rifaximin, add a probiotic (Lactobacillus acidophilus or Saccharomyces boulardii) for 4 weeks to restore gut flora. Drink 2.5â3L water daily. Eat lightly cooked meals during treatment. If mucus in stool continues after the antibiotic course, get a stool culture & sensitivity test to check for specific pathogens.
