Delayed pubertal features are difficult to comment upon without detailed examination. Few points to consider are:
- a delayed puberty in boys has a cut off of 14 years to label upon
- first sign of puberty in boys is testicular enlargement. So examination again becomes important
- parents may be able to note puberty hair growth on the pubic area. Often a growth spurt is noticeable
- Has the height too been compromised in the child? Then it is worth investigating by a paediatric endocrinologist.
Often there is a constitutional delay in the child and the father too might have had a similar pattern in his childhood, though again this is not a rule. If the child is falling short on his growth percentile it is worth investigating now.
Hopefully, there is no other medical problem causing under nutrition in the child and all that will need a detailed evaluation. Even if it is causing an anxiety or stress on the child I will suggest a basic evaluation and investigation
