Elevated PSA level is indicator of prostatitis or prostate enlargement or prostete cancer. Men having prostete cancer often have PSA more than 4. However it is imp to understand that PSA is not a specific test for determining prostete cancer. Most men with elevated PSA levels have non cancerous prostate enlargement, which is a normal part of aging. Also low PSA level does not rule out cancer. Considering the patients complaints a prostate biopsy is recomended to determine presence of cancer.
PSA is a good screening test for prostete cancer esp in young men.
