Post partum leg swelling

2026-11-05 15:35:24
I have severe swelling in both foot. It has been like that for 2 days now. I am 5 days postpartum. Doctor says it will go down on its own but it is getting hard to walk now. What should I do to reduce the swelling?

Some swelling in both feet is common for the first one to two weeks postpartum as your body clears the extra fluid from pregnancy. Swelling severe enough to make walking hard this many days in is worth a recheck rather than just waiting it out.
Next Steps
Keep your legs raised when resting, stay well hydrated, and walk a little through the day rather than standing still for long. Please go back to your doctor this week if it is not easing, since your blood pressure is worth rechecking.
Health Tips
Go in urgently if the swelling is worse on one side with pain, redness or warmth, or if you get a headache, blurred vision or breathlessness.
