Please check my Mom CT Thorax

2026-06-15 12:45:52
My mom has had a cough with mucus and chest noise for the past 3 months. We recently did a CT Thorax, and the report mentions fibrotic strands in both upper lobes, a subpleural fibrotic band in the right upper lobe, a linear fibrotic band in the left lower lobe, ground-glass opacities, and mosaic attenuation. She does not have significant breathlessness, and her oxygen levels are normal. I'm the only son for her I'm very anxious about this report i didn't sleep for the past 10 days and continuously cried. My mom is very poor from childhood she did very hard work (beedi making) to raise me. Is this a serious condition? Does this CT suggest IPF? Is this fibrosis mild, moderate, or severe? Is this condition life-threatening or likely to affect life expectancy? Please tell me 😭 We went to the pulmonologist and the doctor said it was mild and prescribed some cold medicine and inhaler only. What treatment would you recommend? Does she need regular follow-up scans? Please help me doctor 😭

Based on your description, this CT scan does not strongly suggest idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and if your pulmonologist has assessed it as mild, that is reassuring.
Next Steps
Continue the prescribed treatment and follow up with your pulmonologist, who may advise pulmonary function tests and repeat imaging only if symptoms persist or worsen.
Health Tips
Seek prompt medical review if she develops worsening breathlessness, persistent fever, significant weight loss, coughing up blood, or falling oxygen levels.

As per the ct report  she is having mild infection . Fibrosis strands seen are due to old healed infection. As she is not having any significant breathlessness nothing to worry As of now. But check regarding bird or Pigeon exposure. . Also get a pft test done . Share ct films for further evaluation

Based on the radiologist description, it doesn't sure about IPF. The fibrosis might be due to previous history of self healed TB. Better consult with a Pulmonologist with CT films and get PFT done to look for lung function
Next Steps
PFT and get a follow up with Pulmonologist
