Hello
In most cases, brain growth and development are normal, and the flatness is only cosmetic. No impact on brain development, intelligence, speech, or motor skills.
As hair grows and the child becomes upright most of the day, it becomes less noticeable.
Next Steps
Helmet therapy is usually not effective or recommended after 18 months, as skull bones have mostly fused.
Surgery is not required unless craniosynostosis is confirmed
Health Tips
Asymmetry of face or ears, or if associated with developmental delay, refer to pediatric neurologist.
Rule out craniosynostosis (premature fusion of skull bones) if head shape is abnormal and not just flat.
