Sorry for your loss. After a miscarriage at 7 weeks, the first period typically returns in 4â6 weeks once the HCG hormone drops to zero. You are currently 5 weeks post-miscarriage, so your period is expected any day now and a short delay is completely normal. First, do a home
pregnancy test â if positive, it may indicate retained products of conception or a new pregnancy, both of which need a gynaecologist review. If negative, your period should arrive within the next 1â2 weeks. Regarding getting
pregnant again: most guidelines now say it is safe to try again after your first normal period post-miscarriage â no need to wait 3 months as was previously advised. Ensure folic acid 5mg daily is started now if you're planning conception.
Next Steps
Do a home urine
pregnancy test today. If negative and no period by end of July, consult a gynaecologist. Start folic acid 5mg daily. If test is positive, see a gynaecologist for beta-HCG and ultrasound. Consult me on Practo for further guidance.
