Palpitation due to side effects

2024-11-28 10:51:25
My wife takes psychiatric medicines for bipolar mood disorder. Sometimes as a side effect, palpitation increases upto 170 . She takes Ciplar LA 20 and Clonazepam 0.5 and it stabilises in two three hours. Can Ciplar LA 20 be increased upto Ciplar LA 40? Should she take Ciplar 20 instead of Ciplar LA 20? Thanks. Any other suggestion for such sudden palpitations?

Hi.. will need further history to advise appropriately. Like the details of medicines used for bipolar disorder. We have to see if palpitations are due to medicines or some other associated conditions. Propranolol 40 mg may cause dizziness in some.
Next Steps
consult for further evaluation and management

It is uncommon that a medicine used for bipolar disorder will cause heart rate to reach 170. Probably she is suffering from anxiety disorder also. You can safely increase the dose of ciplar LA to 40 MG if she does not have any other medical illness like asthma or heart disease. I am a professor with 22 years of experience in treating patients.
