Pain in and around the anal area during bowel movements that resolves within a few minutes is most commonly caused by an anal fissure — a small tear in the anal lining usually from hard or strained stools. Hemorrhoids (piles) can also cause similar discomfort. Drinking plenty of water, eating a high-fiber diet to keep stools soft, and avoiding straining while passing stools can help relieve symptoms in mild cases. However, a proper physical examination is needed to confirm the exact cause and get appropriate treatment.
Next Steps
Please consult a physician or surgeon for an examination of the anal region. Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation.

Pain during passing stool is commonly due to constipation, anal fissure, or piles. Do next: Drink plenty of water. Take high-fiber diet: fruits, vegetables, salad, oats. Avoid straining and sitting long in toilet. Warm sitz bath 10–15 min after stool. Use stool softener only after doctor advice. Consult a surgeon/doctor if bleeding, swelling, severe pain, fever, or pain continues more than 1 week.
