I am 26 yrs old 65kg 5'7"inch guy and software engineer. Sometimes I wake up in middle of night and go to toilet and not able to sleep unless I do some activity like office work in laptop or read newspaper. Can I solve this problem I mean not able to sleep after waking up in night? I want to sleep properly everyday night. I sleep around 10:45 pm and wake up 7am. I think I sleep too much at this age. Can I reduce sleeping hours? I feel sleepy after lunch at office everyday, sometimes in morning if I could not sleep in night completely. I also want to solve this problem.

Hello as far as i am concerned its not a problem as such.. As your are worried 1.. relax after you wake up in the middle of he night. What is wrong if you are wake for even half an hour. Donot panic. Lie down like that only your sleep will automatically overpower your conscious awakeness. 2..Actually you r not oversleeping also. If at all you want to reduce your no of hours of sleep wake up at 6 am and go for a walk, it helps you to be energetic all through the day which answers your third question indirectly.

You will need to do do two things, firstly adopt a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise, some meditation and some time for recreational activity. Secondly, practice good sleep hygiene which includes amongst other things, avoiding smoking, drinking before bedtime, avoiding other stimulatory activities like working on laptop, watching TV, playing video games, just before going to bed, avoiding daytime naps, waking up same time everyday despite sleep disturbances in night. After waking up in night, try to read a book avoid working on laptop. Hope this helps. If problem continues, consult a psychiatrist. Good luck.
