Hello, I am Dr Romain Rajan, General Physician. Your case has been allotted to me.
I understand your concern. You initially had vomiting with watery loose stools which improved with Sporlac DS and Metrogyl. Now after five days, stools have become mushy with stomach cramps. This means your infection is improving but the intestine is still inflamed and not fully recovered.
Your diet over these five days is playing a major role. Semi spicy food, chicken curry and pastry can easily irritate the gut and delay healing.
Advices
1 Follow a strict bland diet for at least three to four days. This includes khichdi, curd rice, boiled potato, toast and banana.
2 Drink plenty of ORS to prevent dehydration and reduce cramps.
3 Avoid milk, spicy foods, meats, pastries and outside food until your intestines settle.
What to Monitor
1 Increasing cramps or new vomiting.
2 Blood or mucus in stool.
3 Severe weakness or dizziness.
Management
You may continue Sporlac DS for another three days.
For cramps, a safe antispasmodic medicine can help.
Metrogyl should not be continued beyond the prescribed course. If loose stools are persisting even after improvement, your intestine needs time and a proper recovery diet.
Taking spicy food during recovery can restart the irritation and prolong the infection.
If symptoms do not improve after proper diet control, you may need a stool test to rule out persistent infection or lactose intolerance temporarily triggered by diarrhoea. After knowing your exact symptoms and dietary pattern, I can guide you with the correct medicines and duration.
