Mebeverine before or after food

2026-07-13 18:07:28
Most Respected gastroenterologists here, Last year i was prescribed rifagut 550, providac capsule and meva c capsule for IBS related abdominal cramps. Meva c was to be taken twice and 20 minutes before food. However another gastroenterologist has now prescribed me Rifagut 550, econorm 250 capsule and colospa retard (mebeverine 200 mg) . Colospa retard is once daily after breakfast. Am confused if colospa retard (mebeverine 200) is also better off taking before food? Do they work differently if taken before or after food? Does their potency dictates timing of taking? Warm regards 🙏🏻

Hello! Thank you for your detailed query. Both Meva-C and Colospa Retard (mebeverine) are used for IBS-related abdominal cramps, but they differ in composition, formulation, and the recommended timing of administration. The best timing depends on the specific preparation as well as your symptoms and treatment plan. I'd be happy to review your previous and current prescriptions, explain the differences, and guide you on the most appropriate way to take them.
Next Steps
Please book a teleconsultation with me on Practo so we can discuss this in detail and ensure your treatment is optimized. Wishing you good health!
