You are a 24-year-old female with complaints of joint pains and low backache. Your
vitamin D level is only slightly low, and this degree of vitamin D deficiency alone is unlikely to explain all of your symptoms.
Do you have pain or swelling in the small joints of your hands or feet? Do you experience early-morning stiffness of your joints, particularly lasting more than 30–60 minutes?
So far, you have only checked your vitamin D level. I would recommend the following initial investigations:
CBC
ESR,
CRPTSH
VIT
B12Next Steps
If you have small-joint pains, joint swelling, or significant early-morning stiffness, I would additionally recommend:
Rheumatoid factor (RA factor)
Anti-CCP antibody
ANA
Based on the examination and investigation results, we can then determine the cause of your symptoms and plan appropriate treatment.
Health Tips
There is no need to panic after seeing the list of investigations. Your symptoms may have a simple cause, such as anemia or a nutritional deficiency.
Let’s start with some basic blood tests based on your symptoms and then decide if any additional tests are required.
Also, there is no need to worry about giving multiple blood samples. A single blood sample can usually be used to perform all the required blood tests.
Once the reports are available, we can review them and decide on the next step.
