Ligament Rupture

I faced a finger injury 2 months back due to basketball. The X ray reports indicated that it wasn't a fracture, but i faced tenderness in the finger and zero movement. Although it has started to move a bit now (index finger of left hand), but the skin in the area has discolored and turned black, and hasn't healed past 2 months. The movement is restricted to what is shown in the 2nd picture, the finger doesn't move beyond that. Please suggest me what should i do, and how long would this take to heal, and if everything is alright.

In a simple way Mostly you are having a tendon injury of your index finger ( extensor mechanism damage of finger) As it is old and not recovered you need to get detailed examination and investigations for the correct diagnosis and proper management accordingly

There maybe an extensor tendon avulsion or a tear! 2 months is too long to expect any healing by using conservative methods. Again, a physical examination is required to see where the pain is, and where the mechanical failure is, either at the first joint in the finger or the second. Treatment depends on that too. Surgery is a must in case of a complete tear or an avulsion.
Next Steps
1. physical examination to assess the site of injury 2. surgery in case of a complete tear 3. pain killers in case of pain, on an SOS basis

The extensor muscle tendon/ extensor expansion is torn due to which you can't straighten the finger from the affected joint.
Next Steps
It requires initial splinting is a Cot splint, which requires the finger to be maintained in a straight position. Since it is a 2 month old injury, the bent position will be difficult to get straight. So start physiotherapy to regain the range of motion. Do not worry about the discoloration as it will get better with time. If physiotherapy fails, surgical repair of the tear will be the last option.
