In most patients having lichen planus, the disease is self limiting and heals with time. However the lesions leave behind dark spots which can take months to even a couple of years to go. As the pigmentation is in the deeper layers of the skin, many times no creams work ( for dark spots ). Vaseline is safe to apply. Trust your doctor and visit him/her if there is a recurrence of lichen planus in future.
