This problem is called as osteoarthritis of knee joint leads to lack of joint space as well as wear and tear of the joint surface and cartilage. Physiotherapy is very much helpful in these cases.
Next Steps
go for physitherapy..ultrasonic therapy for healing, tens for muscle relaxation and wax therapy for reducing inflammation may required . take rest. then the exercises are to be done and very much important.
Health Tips
at home: give rest to the knee, avoid full weight bearing to the injured knee and hot water fomentation and some painkiller gel are temporarily helpful..avoid prolonged standing and walking , no stair climbing, use knee cap, no cold exposure.

By your description , it appears to be osteoarthritis, meaning age related wear and tear. basic management is by exercises, weight control, medication, and physiotherapy. Since these are not very effective in your case , kindly get x ray of knees done - AP (standing), Lateral and skyline views. Kindly review with me in my clinic at Punjabi Bagh with these x rays for assessment of the range of motion, ligament strength, etc. for further management

Hello there,,,,well most probably it is bcos of the ageing process that the joint surface gets eroded and decrease synovial fluid in joint results in knee pain...there can be many factors for it....if it is due to ageing or if at all you are overweight...physiotherapy exercises along with electrical modalities and supplimentary therapy of calcium, univestin and Antioxidant would bring you relief,,,however if there are other reasons like harmonal, systemic or Anatomical joint problem then furthur course of action is recommended.
Next Steps
visit a orthopadecian/Physiotherapist with Xray of both the knees in AP and flexed lateral poaition...do blood analysis for CBC,calcium, uric acid,RA factor,Thyroid function test.
Health Tips
wear a patellar hole knee brace when ever you go out of the house,,,,try n reduce stair climbing prolong standing and no cross leg sitting. Regards & Take care.

Hello by the way you mention I think it is osteoarthritis I would suggest you to consultant orthopedician as we need to get an xray done and grade it... if it's in the initial stages then you can go for Physiotherapy as it will definitely help and avoid any strain as in walking up the stairs, keeping your legs folded or sitting down on the floor...Thank you... do not go for any excessive massaging of the knee joints thank you
