If you have severe pain in the knees which interferes with daily activities and restricts your movements, then possibly knee replacement is the best option IF your X-rays show severe reduction in Joint space.
For temporary relief, you can undertake the following options:
- Physiotherapy to increase the strength of the knee and hip muscles ( do the exercises taught by the physio regularly at home)
- Avoid high flexion activities ( such as sitting cross-legged, sitting on floor, squatting, etc.)
- Preferably sit on a high chair or stool.
- Use a commode chair with rubber commode extender
- Avoid stairs
- Control weight
- For exercise, walk on plain level ground for not more than 15-20 minutes
Next Steps
Consult a Knee replacement surgeon to work out the best options for you.
Health Tips
Do not put off the knee replacement for long if bone damage has already started, because more specialised implants will be required which will push up the price of surgery.
