Hi! First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy. Since you have
diabetes and are taking insulin from the beginning of your pregnancy, it’s important to know that:
1. Insulin does not harm your baby. It actually helps control your blood
sugar, which is very important for the healthy development of your baby.
2. Your PP (postprandial) sugar of 152 mg/dL is not too high, but ideally should be below 140 mg/dL. So your doctor increasing your insulin dose to 40 units is a step to help bring it under better control.
3. Increasing insulin doses during pregnancy is common because hormonal changes make your body more resistant to insulin. It does not mean anything dangerous, and many women need higher doses as pregnancy progresses.
4. After delivery, your insulin requirement often drops suddenly, and some women may even need no insulin if they had gestational diabetes or mild pre-existing diabetes. Your doctor will monitor and adjust your dose accordingly.
Next Steps
Keep checking your
sugar levels regularly.
Maintain a diabetic-friendly pregnancy diet and stay physically active as advised.
Go for regular check-ups and fetal growth scans.
