Itching all over body - 78 years old

2025-10-12 01:54:11
Updated post with reports. Dear doctors, seeking advice! My 78-year-old dad has itching all over his body once or twice a week, but it strangely subsides after taking a shower. He's on BP medication( coversyl am8/10) and Roseday gold 20mg, and recent blood tests didn't reveal anything alarming. Any insights would be helpful as I am far away from home. Attached are the reports. God bless  🙏 Worried daughter

Hello, I understand your concern — itching in elderly individuals, especially when blood reports are normal, can be due to dry skin (senile pruritus), temperature or water changes, or even side effects of medications such as Coversyl AM or Roseday Gold. The fact that your father’s itching improves after a shower strongly suggests xerosis (dryness-related itching) or a mild contact hypersensitivity. However, sometimes subtle issues like vitamin D deficiency, mild liver or kidney function variations, or drug-induced itching may not show up in standard reports and require a focused review. You can help him by ensuring: Daily gentle bath with lukewarm (not hot) water Mild fragrance-free moisturizer after bath Avoidance of harsh soaps Simple antihistamine (as needed) for itching relief Since he is elderly and on cardiac medications, it’s best not to start or stop any drug without medical supervision. I can go through his reports in detail and guide you on whether this is purely skin-related or medication-linked — and how to prevent recurrence safely. 👉 You can message me directly on WhatsApp at nine three two six zero two zero five three six for a private discussion and customized plan for your father’s comfort.

- Urine Routine shows protein present and urine granular casts, although not a very significant value, but still may point to some Kidney involvement - Blood urine nitrogen(BUN) elevated, Serum Creatinine elevated and serum Blood urea elevated again indicated Kidney involvement as liver function test is normal -CBC shows Hb, RBC, HCT values deranged but not significantly, indicated either a nutritional deficinecy or an ongoing inflammation in the body may be with Kidney involvement -WBC and peripheral smear shows elevated esinophils, which can indicate an infection, or Kidney involvement -ESR which is a maker if ongoing inflammation is elevated Kindly note of any other recent medications prescribed or taken by your father in these past few months or weeks, other than the medication for BP and Cholestrol. If he is still taking anthing other than them, stop those medications. Possibilities:- 1. The BP medicine, Coversyl AM 8/10, is a combination of two different medications, One of these medicines can sometimes cause itching in a few people. For this swithcing to another BP medications as prescribed by the doctor will suffice. 2. The blood and urine test results however show some changes that suggest the kidneys are working a little harder than normal. One of them as high BUN level means that some waste products are building up in the blood, and this can also cause itching of the skin. Along with other simultaneous deranged values, a significant Kidney issue is highly suspected.
Next Steps
Consult a Nephrologist for a general physician for definate management physically, as soon a possible to move further with the most suitable treatment.
Health Tips
- Look out for any new symptoms - For symptomatic relief application of LACTOACALAMINE LOTION or CALADRLY LOTION can help, 2 to 3 times a day.

If he is not diabetic, there is no rashes,  could be age related dryness. Get thyroid profile done to exclude hypothyroidism. Let him apply glycerin or some good moisturing lotion over whole body, 2 to 3 times daily. Before shower, whole body massage with some natural oil like coconut or olive oil will be helpful.
