Hi, The dentist would give you a temporary crown after taking out the old crown. Hence you should not worry about leaving without a crown. If there is no pain in the root canal treated tooth initially, then taking out an old crown is not usually painful. You might expect some pressure on your tooth when the dentist is using a crown removing instrument. Would suggest you to explain all your apprehensions to your dentist before the treatment and I am sure they would be able to help you with it.

If treatments like root canal treatment or extraction and other minor or major surgeries are painless, how can removal of the crown be painful???? It is definitely a time consuming process and this time depends upon the material of the old crown and the technique used to remove it.
