2020-05-20 23:11:00
Hi. Went to the hospital for follow up visit for the baby who was born 5 days back. The pediatrician wanted to test the jaundice. They pricked the her in both hands since not enough blood sample could be extracted from one hand they said, and now one hand is swelled and whole hand is green. I'm very worried. Please see pictures. 1. Is this usual? 2. What can I do to resolve this quickly? 3. Is this hurting the baby till it heals completely?

Hi I can fully understand your worry. This is because there was no pressure applied at site of needle puncture... after baby was handed you parents... sometimes parents get scared to press.. Be careful in future specially during vaccine visit. And know the basics.. I have made a dedicated video on post vaccine care. And same principle applies here.. . please watch it on my vlog.... for  full answer to your query.. Hello. This is due to the pooling of excessive blood under the skin. In usual terms, it’s not much to worry about. Requires no further evaluation. Sumag dressing is deemed useful. It will subside within 7-10 days.
Next Steps
Evaluate with a local practitioner.

This is because of some oozing of blood in the skin while drawing it.. This will resolve on its own in a weeks time.. No treatment is required.. if he gets more bleeding with trivial injuries then he needs further evaluation..
