I am 22 M and have overcrowded teeth in both upper and lower jaws. I wanted to have braces for a long time. At this age is it safe to have braces? What are the complications involved?

Hello dear patient, It is safe to get braces done at this age but the extend of your prognosis depends on how is the current situation. But my advice to you is better get an opg or a lateral cephhalogram done and get it checked from your respective orthodontist. As such there are no complications but as I mentioned before the result of your overall treatment depends on current crowding. So it’s safe to say that you get your braces done as soon as possible to avoid relapse of treatment in later years .
Next Steps
Consult a good orthodontist and get an opg and lateral cephalogram done

Hello, There are newer procedures now of smile designing. Incase you’re scared of braces, there are options like Invisalign which are comparatively much aesthetic and painless as well. There are also other options like Laminate veneers for smile designing. However, you need to consult and see what best fits according to the malocclusion that you have. For the braces, it’s a completely safe process. There are no complications aa such. However depending upon the crowding, you may need extraction to create space for the proper alignment of teeth. This cases of whether to extract or not is decided after we analyse your entire dentition.
