In People with Health anxiety, the amygdala or the area of our brain which reacts to danger is in a hyperalert mode. So the Brain picks up even insignificant things and magnifies it into a huge life threatening disease.
So with medication and CBT, one learns to control these. You are taught to keep a record of when you check for symptoms and taught to not check the internet. And to write down fears and then challenge them. Medicines help in 3-4 or more wks. CBT helps if you do your side of the homework. And are regular with counselling for 2-3 months.
