The article you have shown is to create a sensational controversy. If someone is on the wrong medicines like insulin for Type 2 diabetes the person can develop crash of
sugar called hypoglycemia. This can make one very sick or can even kill an elderly person with heart problems. So the standard of control has been relaxed for people above 80 with multiple other problems that limit their life span. A middle aged person with no other organ involvement should ideally look at achieving an HbA1c of less than 6.5%.
