Hi, I am Dr. ATUL KUMAR NIMAWAT MS ENT
Geographic Tongue (Benign Migratory Glossitis). It is a harmless inflammatory condition of the tongue where red, map-like patches with slightly raised borders appear.
The exact cause is not known. It is considered a benign variant of the tongue’s surface pattern. Possible associations: hormonal changes (common in pregnancy), nutritional deficiencies (iron,
vitamin B12, folic acid), allergies, stress, and genetic predisposition.
It is not infectious, not precancerous, and usually does not cause long-term problems.
Next Steps
Usually no treatment is required, as it is a self-limiting condition.
Health Tips
Maintain good oral hygiene.
