Gas issues for my 1.5 month child

2025-08-21 12:17:49
My baby is on formula milk because I have a very low milk supply and cannot breastfeed her. She often has gas problems and produces a bad smell. Since I will not be able to breastfeed her in the future as well, will formula milk create problems for my child?

First of all , mother's milk is the best for baby, if you're having some issues with breastfeeding, consult with a doctor physically, need to find out the reason, your doctor can also give some medicines for low milk production
Next Steps

How old is the baby? Have you tried any medication to increase milk secretion? Even if there is inadequate secretion, remember to always attach the baby to breast before formula, as sucking on breast promotes secretion. Breast milk is ideal,  but giving formula feed is okay if breast milk cannot be given due to special circumstances. Provided you prepare formula feeds adequately, 30 ml water for 1 scoop of powder, under hygienic conditions. Try to use a properly sterilized/ boiled bowl and spoon for feeding, but if not feasible, use steel/metalic bottle which can be sterilized. Don't use plastic bottles.

Generally it doesn't. Oftentimes bottle complicates the issues because baby tends to ingest a lot of air wirh the milk. Try cup spoon or palladai feeds. Your pediatrician will monitor the child's growth.
Next Steps
Burp well

Hello parent! Breast milk is the best form of milk and is advocated for the ease of digestibility too. Do try to give as much as you can. Good amount of fluids especially milk and dairy products promote milk production in the mother as does breast feeding the baby. So do keep trying You can adopt these measures for gas relief: - while preparing the formula ensure proper dilution with potable water. Bottle should be steam sterilised. Let the prepared formula settle for a while to ensure the dissolved bubbles escape up. Bottle size should not be too big ( appropriate for the amount needed only ) - ensure the nipple is full with milk so that air does not flow in while sucking - burp for 20-25 min after feeds - practice tummy time for the baby while he is awake and tummy is not full - practice baby massage. Try bicycle movements of legs for the baby. It will help exercise for the baby and promote intestinal movements Lastly, a change of formula with pre and probiotics may help and can be tried for a week, if it helps
