Cholesterol gallstones can sometimes be dissolved with ursodeoxycholic acid taken by mouth, but it may be necessary to take this medication for years.Gallstones may recur, once the drug is stopped. Long term it is costly also. There will always be chance of gallstone induced pancreatitis if stones are very small, or cbd obstrction causing jaundice. Asymptomatic gall stones are kept under observation. If associated with symptoms then will require laparoscopic cholecystectomy. It is a long topic to discuss. Decision is better taken by evaluating the patient completely. It is rare to have cholesterol stones only at this age. Chances of mixed stone should not be ruled. As i opined it will require complete workup. One good thing it can be treated appropriately.
