Hi,,, any person's average height is determined mainly by his genetics and some environmental conditions,,,, and most of the people reaches their average height by the age of 20 (male). Growth hormone (more pulsatile surge in adolescents) responsible for gaining height, acts on growth plate which is more active during adolescent. Once the growth plate closes in long bones by the age approximately around 20 yrs (males), even exogenous supply of Growth hormone, only causes lateral growth but no longitudinal growth and may lead to condition know as acromegaly in adults.
