Fracture on left hand ankle

My mother fell down and her left hand hit a wall. Left hand ankle got fractured after taking x-Ray. Doctor suggested that surgery is required for placing the K-wire to keep bones align before he puts bandage. Please advice whether surgery is mandatory or not

Need to see X-ray to give opinion If the fracture is not passing through joint and does not involve multiple pieces than k wiring can be tried Otherwise we need to fix it with a spicier plate meant for this fracture , after which you don't require plaster
