First day of period?

My cycle is very regular every 28-30 days but sometimes on first day it's usually spotting and bleeding starts 2nd or 3rd day and goes on for 3days. Now my confusion is, spotting day is considered as first day of period or actual flow day? Pls advise as this will help me in predicting the day of ovulation. Also please advise the days of ovulation for a 28/30 day cycle

Dear Practo user, If spotting before proper menstrual flow is a recurrent affair, it is better to consult Gynaecologist. Actual flow day is considered as the first day of the menstrual period. In a 28/ 30 day cycle the day of ovulation would be 14/16th day.
