Fever with WBC count of 17k

My husband having fever for past two days and cold, doctor asked to take blood test as he had fever last week and it get subside after taking medicine. We get the result of WBC 17000, polymorph 84.7 and lympocytes 11.5. After seeing the report, doctor asked to get admit and find the source of infection, is this something bad? I am getting scared, pls help me on this. What kind of test will they do for finding the source of infection?

Wbc is high ,which is suggestive of severe infection He will require iv antibiotics
