Clonazepam effects gaba receptors. Upon using long term it can cause permanent deficits in cognitive functions which inturn effects sexual dysfunction.  a long term use of a drug that slows down the brain signals by enhancing gaba is boud to cause some permanent deficits in brain . In my case it's 15 months of use of 1/4 mg of clonazepam. I asked my doctor of the reason to put me on this drug without psychotherapy or any other therapies. I had ocd ,which was mistaken for GAD. I have quit this tablet 20 days ago . The doctor says the tablets to be ok in long term too. But I fear of the unknown side effects of clonazepam which  has shown in many studies to be permanent ex:- cognitive issues and sexual dysfunction. So please help me . I want explanation of gaba receptors damage and will it recover 100 % or not. That's all I need please.

That's a very deep dive into GABA and receptors for a 17 year old. Kindly don't stress yourself with hypothetical academic scenarios, and follow the advice based on your clinician's experience and training.

Hello, there. I appreciate your inquisitiveness and awareness about what drugs you are putting in your system and what they can cause to you. Any drug you take will have its positive and negative effects. So to have the good effects you will have to strive thru the side effects whether short or long term. Since you have an anxiety disorder, you definitely need a therapeutic line of help. I would recommend you to try Homeopathy which is natural, have zero side effects and greatly effective.
